[review] Queen Betsy series by MaryJanice Davidson

The thing I like about this Queen Betsy series by our dear author, MaryJanice Davidson is the humor. All those small little things that we like to mutter under our breath, it’s funny and it made me laugh. And hey, the story is quite fascinating too. Like I mentioned (if not for the billionth times) in my other reviews, I read a lot of vampires books (and I think you too, no doubt) so it really takes more than a bit of brain juice to satisfy me and my brain.

The main character, Elizabeth Taylor a.k.a. Betsy reminds me of Fran Fine in ‘The Nanny’. LOL, their fashion sense were the same, except Fran is fashion-conscious from head to toe. I learnt many names of shoe designers from the series. There are some names that I never heard before… maybe because I’m pretty much of a Laura-with-Payless person. Says me with my 2 years old, bright yellow Greek sandal. I bet Betsy will scream at me if she ever saw me.

One thing about vampire here that I haven’t read about from other books was they are afraid of God and everything about it, like bibles and prayer (plus, curses. HAH). So, it gave a sense of security like if you were being chased by a vampire, you can start reciting “For God so love the world that he gave his only son… etcetera”

I would have given a place for this series in my top ten list of ‘Best Supernatural Series’ if not for the new spin in the story starting book 7. Man, at least announce this as a Season 2 series (she kinda did but I’m the reader here, I need somebody to blame for my heartaches) so that I’ll prepare myself or something. It really makes me sad to read about the death of the ones I knew. Plus it gave me a 2 day worth book poisoning which has side effects like tension headache.

The ‘trilogy arc’ or something starting from the seventh book had given me at least a surprise (if not nasty) per book. Although I’m still glad that Betsy is continuing to amaze people or learnt new skills (Yay, amazing Betsy!), it didn’t come up enough to counter-balance the nasty ones.

So after all and all, I give this series a 3 out of 5.

[WARNING – There might be bits of spoilers ahead, proceed by your own risk]

My personal thought (rant!) about the series

I wonder how will the next book coming along. Man, I seriously hope that the future won’t end up like the one in book 9. I really can’t that the fact that the (second version or WHAT?!) Book of the Dead is made up of Eric’s skin. I mean, YUCK?! and NOOoooo!! And what with the Marc-gone-insane-stuff?! He might not be my favorite character but he did nothing to get himself to be a villain in the future.

And I really dislike Laura, from the first time she appeared until now. Because no matter how good she live her life, she’s evil inside. On the other hand, I like BabyJon~! Man, he is, maybe the most sanest (okay, redundancy here) person in the future.

Anyway, I was wondering if I’m gonna buy the next book. Because if disaster filled up more than 50% of the pages, I so going to throw it in the fire which will result in a wastage of my money. By the by, if you are buying the book, BookDepository is having discount on this one.

[Review] Katie Chandler series by Shanna Swendson

Katie Chandler series by Shanna Swendson is definitely one of my favorite book/series. If you are ‘saturated’ with vampire and werewolf stories, or even faeries, you might consider picking this series right now~! Shanna makes normal the new black!

To start with, the cover of each book is quite entertaining and light. I like the frog which present in every cover because it reminds one of ‘Prince Charming’ in frog suit. LOL

In many books, we read that the main character are highlighted for having special powers or coming from rare ancestry, but this book our main character, Katie is special and powerful for having no power! How do you like that~!

Mix in some modern magic and some handsome and yummy guys *squel*, this series is certainly not to be missed.

I give this series a 4 out of 5~!

[review] Archangel's Consort (Guild Hunter series) by Nalini Singh

I just finished reading this book and I must say, “Man, I like this story! More please~ XD”
Okay before that, have you read the first book, Angels’ Blood? If you haven’t, go and get yourself a copy now~ XD

I bought mine from here – BookDepository and it’s free shipping worldwide~! XDXD

buy the book from The Book Depository, free delivery
Psst, I even get it on a bargain price~ XDXD

Okay, about this book. I wonder if it’s me or it’s thicker than its previous books.
I can’t help feeling Nalini Singh had written more than enough details in some parts. Hmmm…
The focus in the story is on Raphael’s mother, Caliane or I think it is.
Because there were other different matters on hand to tackle, rather different than its previous books.

There are also inner turmoil of both the hunter, Elena and our archangel, Raphael.
Trust is the main element between both of them and Nalini Singh had put up a few obstacles, making the bond between Elena and Raphael stronger. So important the trust that if it breaks, we will die along with either our archangel or guild hunter. Love the sensation Nalini Singh has weaved in the story.

Waiting for the new book to come, I give this a 3.5 out of 5~!

[Personal thoughts and prediction for the next book – WARNING, SPOILER AHEAD]

Man, I think I like Book 1 and 2 better than the third one. Firstly, I think there are too much bed scenes in Archangel’s Consort. If I need to guess, I think there are at least ten bed scenes – not including those without a bed *wink*
It’s not like I dislike the oh-so-delicious Raphael and equally ravishing guild hunter but overdose will numb the senses, don’t you think?

Secondly, there were parts I don’t even know had ‘happened’. Either it’s not important (but if so, there’s no need to even mention it, right?) or our author is running out of paper to write in detail.
For example, when did Harrison ran away from his contract and when did Elena caught him? When did Michaela started to date Astaad’s second?

Now for some predictions, I think one word. Baby~! (or babies XDXD) I wonder if she/he had wings? After all, Elene IS an angel now =O
Then, maybe Michaela start going crazy? (I’ve been bracing for her madness from Uram to catch in the third book but she’s not in it)
What about Elena’s maybe-vampire-blood-heritage? I keep thinking she is somehow related to Dmitri (Hah! That’s gonna be major awkwardness =P)
Evelyn still small so there will be nothing major about her.

One thing I hope I will never read about is love triangle (because I tend to pity the one not chosen) so whatever it is, please don’t let Illium start confessing to Elena or I’ll die T^T (I really like Illium)

[review] Morgan Kingley series by Jenna Black

Nice story~
Jenna Black made the suspense in each story so predictable and unpredictable at the same time often makes me wonder what will really happen in the end. There are many inner turmoil going around Morgan's head and it was well written to let us readers feel the feelings, similar if not exact.

The down side of the story is too much repetition of Morgan's principle of life and it does annoys a bit whenever Morgan started to do it.

It made me cry in the end and the ending falls in my book as an acceptable ending.
I give this series a 3.5 out of 5~!

[review] Storm Born by Richelle Mead

Storm Born is a good read. It had been a while since I read something that contained a variety of monsters, faeries, gentry or any category you can think of. To be honest, the only monster/magical being I knew was ‘kitsune’ a.k.a. Japanese fox. The rest were just something I don’t understand.

For action, I’m quite satisfied with the ability of the main character, Eugenie. To be able to handle a gun and then a wand, coupled with the ability to past through the other two worlds. Great abilities, I must say.

For romance, I like the attraction between Eugenie and her ‘boy’ Kiyo (oooh…) because they let nothing to stand between them. Just plain raw desire and also love =3
But for somehow, I hate how everything progress at the end. I absolutely hate the thought of a love triangle and I’ll be happy to ditch any stories with it inside. Sadly, I’m not able to foresee a triangle in it and here I am, feeling sorry for the ‘unpicked’ party. I like Dorian and it pained me to see him not able to be together with Eugenie and how he already lost the battle at the start…
I guess it’s not a triangle after all… *sulked*

Oh well, as much as I like the characters and all, I don’t agree with the plot that made all the male being trying to get Eugenie pregnant. Other than that, there is also the part where Eugenie had unprotected sex with both Kiyo and Dorian. I had my concern over her pregnancy and it bothered me so much….

I give this a 3 out of 5. Ciaossu~

[review] Fantasy Lover by Sherrilyn Kenyon

Just finished reading this book.
And I LOVE it~! XD
Also related with Greek Gods (because it’s my current obsession), this story unravel led nicely.

The way main guy character is described, DELICIOUS~~
Makes me wonder what will I do if I ever able to summon Julian, Julian of Macedon.
Love it when he is trying to get our girl to bed *blush*

The story got me shedding a few tears at the end because … because, just because *shrugged*
A great book, I give this a 4 out of 5~

[review] Oh. My. Gods. by Tera Lynn Childs

It’s been a while since I read any teenage romance because they are so predictable sometimes.
School, schedule, boring teachers, stupid exams, brilliant result or something around there.
But I read this book because I’m currently obsessed with Greek Gods.

The storyline is okay and it’s kind of entertaining.
Still, it’s a bit predictable because it follows the rule ‘In the life of every girl, there will be at least a bitch’.
But then again, what’s the fun if there are no antagonists?

I give this a 3 out of 5~

[review] The Body Finder by Kimberly Derting

I know about this book from a Twilight facebook page.
It is the book of the day/week (Uh, I couldn’t remember)
Well, since I like paranormal romance I went and search for more information about it.

A review about the book said that it is hard to put it down when you have started reading it.
I second that.
As soon as I started reading it, I couldn’t stop.
I want to know everything, how the story goes, what is Violet going to do next and everything.

This is a good book because the story had a fair share of unexpected twist and turns, the way Derting writes is simple and easy. And yet, it means a lot. Lastly, a lot of kissing. Yum~!

I give this a 4 out of 5~

[review] Immortality Bites by Michelle Rowen

I'm kind of surprised that there is vampire novels that will let me down.
Actually, there are a few but the interest never stick around long enough to get the titles in.

For this one, I actually stick around and read until book 2 but I guess my patience runs out. Too bad for this one, I've just finished reading Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress Series. So, comparisons are inevitable. This novel series by Michelle Rowen, sad to say, pale in comparison to J.Frost's series.

When I read vampire novels, I read about their strength, weakness, what they can do and what they can't. For Bitten and Smitten, I'm not sure what the whole thing is about. Well, there are vampire-hunters and vampires but the whole thing....uh, how to say?
Action? - Average
Romance? - Uh, average?
Vampirism? - Other than drinking blood and having fangs, they are all humans alike.

I didn't get to read further than a few chapters off book 2 but I'm sure the later ones are better than the first book (otherwise, M.Rowen won't release it). So, for those who like this series, please don't bash/spam me yeah, I'm just speaking what I'm thinking in MY blog.

I give this a 2 out of 5...

[review] Jane Jameson series by Molly Harper

This series is very good! I give it a thumb up for great plotline.
I love how vampires maintain an open society and have their needs sold on the market for them (synthetic blood, floss, book, sunscreen, window tint and everything)

The story continues to grab my attention with its extraordinary ways to curse.
For example: ‘He yells out some of the 7 words you don’t say in a polite atmosphere’ or ‘he suggests that I perform various sexual acts to myself’ LOL
I don’t know if I can write out the same as from the book, but you get what I mean.

I read many types of vampire books and I’ve read on many different kinds of vampire condition (venomous or not, fanged of not, sunshine or not, bats or not etc). The vampire condition in this book is good and Molly Harper makes up good ‘defense’ to cover for the vampire’s weaknesses (how many times did I mention the word ‘good’? o.0)

Anyway, I give this series a 4 out of 5~

PS> It’s an adult book so be warned, ya

[review] Carmilla – Sheridan Le Fanu

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

This is a really weird book if you ask me x.x
I mean, since it’s a vampire book I should able to read story about it.
But mostly it is about the admiration of the vampire to the main character and there is no mentioning about who is the vampire for almost 80 % of the story.
Although, you can already guess it from the beginning of the story =P

Still, I won’t recommend this one if you hope to read vampire stories like Twilight.

I give this novel a 2 out of 5

[review] Kerrelyn Sparks - All I Want For Christmas Is a Vampire

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Lol, I didn’t realize this is an adult romance novel when I first get my hands on it. But no matter, I think this is a well-made vampire novel ^^

I’ve read quite a number of vampire novels and this one proved itself good enough to be out of the norm. Blood-loving, non-venomous, ability to teleport, mind-controller… etc etc, a good combination of element, I say~

And this is my first time reading about mortals guarding vampires on day shift, way to go Kerrelyn Sparks! XD! As I read the novel, I’m playing the scene in my head. I will definitely watch this one if it is converted into a movie~

I give this novel a 4 out of 5~

[Review] Amelia Atwater Rhodes – Midnight predator

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Amelia Atwater Rhodes – Midnight predator

This is another good vampire novel although not better than the previous one in my review. Vampires possessed qualities like mind-tapping, ability to track slaves, non-venomous, and etc etc. There is not much romance as it focuses on mission, assassination, revenge and stuff like that.

But I like the feelings that grow between Jaguar and Turquoise a.k.a. Catherine. It’s sweet but it’s a shame the author didn’t elaborate more on it. I was looking forward the following story after Turquoise finally revenged herself.
*shrugged* Anyway, this is a worth reading novel, so there! XD

I give this novel a 3 out of 5!

...
